# Avenue - Where Web3 Works Avenue is *the* work platform for web3 - a place where Organizations and Contributors can ship their best work with workflows and features designed specifically for them. **Organizations** can coordinate their team and contributors to achieve their shared mission. **Contributors** can collaborate on work, submit it to Organizations and record their contributions on- and off-chain. Create a Homebase for your organization by filling in this form. By the end of it, you should have a starter Homebase that looks [like this.](https://avenue.place/~avenue)

Here's what Avenue's Homebase looks like

**Hubs** Hubs are areas to discuss specific topics and to let teams, guilds or interested community members get together, e.g. a Marketing or Onboarding Hub. You can preview a Hub and click "Join Conversation" to join the Hub's chat. Hubs can also be used to manage Outcomes (more on those later.)\ \ Hub's can be *private* (only invite people can access them), *public* (anyone can join them) or restricted (anyone can see they exist but only invited people can access them).

Hubs are lightweight coordination tools. Use them to get everyone on the same page.

**Rooms** Rooms are where the work actually happens. Get together with people you invite to work on specific projects or tasks. After inviting them, define your objectives, and make things happen. Rooms don’t need to be tied to Homebases or Hubs, they just exist on their own and anyone can join them by following the invite link. \ \ Rooms can be created by anyone, to collaborate and (optionally) submit their work to any organization on the Avenue network via [Outcomes](#outcomes). Rooms don't have to exist forever - they probably even shouldn't! Once you're done, you can just archive them.

**Outcomes** When you're collaborating in a room, you may want to *ship something*. On Avenue, that happens through Outcomes. You can summarize and submit completed work for approval to Homebases or Hubs. \ \ A Room can generate multiple Outcomes, meaning they can be submitted to the Homebases or Hubs of as many different organizations as you need - perfect for DAO2DAO and Org2Org collaboration! Outcomes can have any number of participants and they inherit the permissions of their target: * If the target is a Homebase, it is *public*, meaning anyone can read it and comment. * If the target is a public Hub, anyone can read it and comment. * If the target is a private or restricted Hub, only members of the Room and the Hub can read it and comment on it. Admins of the target can give feedback - like giving a thumbs-up, requesting changes or just leaving a comment. Thumbs-ups and change requests are *non-binding* - they're just visual indicators for other admins to coordinate on that Outcome. Outcomes can either be *Approved* or *Declined* by admins. Both of these are *terminal states:* once an Outcome has been approved or declined, it can't be changed. It's not possible to submit the same Outcome to multiple targets simultaneously - you'd need to create multiple Outcomes. When an Outcome is *Approved*, Avenue runs *Automatic Actions*. These actions replace a lot of the manual work currently done in web3 organizations. You can use them to do things like showcasing your contributions on your profile, getting paid automatically when submitting work (coming soon) etc. Please let us know which Automatic Actions and integrations you'd like us to add.

**Milestones (Coming Soon)** There's a lot of work that happens behind the scenes when you're collaborating. For example, when you're writing an article or putting an event on, they don't just happen - there are a number of small but necessary steps that help you get there. Milestones allow you to record and share progress when tasks are completed. Use them to update other contributors or to mint your work on chain. To create a Milestone, summarize what work was done and who did it (and attach the work itself, if you want to). Once everyone involved has added it to their profile, you can mint it on-chain. \ \ **PLEASE NOTE:** if you mint a Milestone before others have added it to their profile, they'll be removed from the Milestone. Make sure every participant in that Milestone has added it to their Personal Profiles before minting so that you capture everyone who wants to be included on-chain.

#### **Personal Profiles** Avenue lets you build a visual portfolio of Milestones and Outcomes. You can keep your contributions off-chain or mint them on-chain with a couple of clicks. Share your profile and get others to join you on Avenue as you work together.

#### Discord Integration Never miss a thing by syncing your Homebases with our Discord bot. When an outcome is submitted, Avenue automatically notifies the relevant admins. Once your Outcome has been approved, you will also be notified. You can also automatically create Rooms from Discord and add the relevant people. If you want to create a Homebase for your organization, fill in [this form](https://forms.gle/TLaMHLQU2wqwtA5V8). # Your first contribution Getting your first contribution on Avenue is simple and takes less than 60 seconds: {% embed url="" %} ### Creating a Room You should get started by creating a Room. Rooms are collaborative spaces where you can invite others simply through an invite link. Out-of-the-box Avenue enables DAO2DAO and Org2Org collaboration.

To get your first contribution, start by clicking "New Outcome" on the right-side nav bar. ### Your first Outcome If you ever used GitHub, Outcomes are just like Pull Requests. They have a title, a body, a target and Automatic Actions. You should start what you want your Outcome to target - it can be a Homebase (our organizational profiles) or a Hub (a sub-section of a Homebase). For now, select the "Avenue" Homebase and, after that, the "Interactive Onboarding" Hub. Give it a title, like "Completed the interactive onboarding", and a description, like "Went through the interactive onboarding to get my first contribution." Finally, you should select an Automatic Action. When Outcomes are submitted, the admins of the Homebase or the Hub you targeted have to *accept* or *decline* them. When an Outcome is *accepted*, any Automatic Actions that are associated with it will run. That means you'll be able to automatically get paid for work you do, record contributions on-chain, submit expenses and so on. For now, just select "Record Contributions". After all this, this what your outcome should look like:

You're now ready to submit the outcome. Let's start by clicking "Post in Room". ### Submitting an Outcome When you post an Outcome, it is internal to the room. This allows you and your fellow collaborators to have a back-and-forth about the outcome before submitting it to a Homebase or a Hub. The Interactive Onboarding Hub is a special Hub that accepts the first Outcome you make to it. In the room page, click submit on the top-right of the Outcome preview

### Getting your Outcome approved After the Outcome has been submitted, admins need to approve it. Our Interactive Onboarding Hub is a special Hub that always accepts the first Outcome you make. A few seconds after submitting the outcome, one of our admin accounts should automatically give you feedback (a *thumbs-up*) and, after that, approve it. You'll see that any updates to the Outcome will appear in the Room and if you visit the Outcome, you'll see that it has been approved.

Outcomes to public Homebases and Hubs are public as well. In fact, you can open and comment on this very outcome [here](https://avenue.place/outcomes/76522711551049728). ### Minting your first contribution If you visit your profile, you'll find something like this:

That's your first contribution! Anytime you have an Outcome with the "Record Contributions" action accepted, a custom contribution will be generated for you. Contributions can be on-chain or off-chain. By default, they're off-chain. You can click "Mint" on the bottom and select your new contribution to mint it. Minting happens through the [Govrn](https://govrn.app) protocol which is hosted on Gnosis chain. You'll need some XDAI for that which you can get through their [official faucet](https://https://gnosisfaucet.com/). After that, your contribution will show up on-chain! If you mint any contribution on the Govrn platform, it will automatically be picked up by Avenue and showcased on your profile. That's it! Congrats on your first Avenue contribution! # Discord Integration Avenue’s Discord bot has two main features: 1. To allow anyone to create a link to a Room from Discord 2. To notify the relevant people that an Outcome has been submitted to the organization, or that the status of an Outcome has been changed ### How to install it #### Connect as a Discord and Homebase admin 1. Visit [this URL](https://discord.avenue.place) and follow the Discord instructions. Please note that you’ll need to be an admin of the Discord server in order to install it. 2. Message Nelson [on Twitter](https://twitter.com/nelsontjordan) or shoot him [an email](mailto:nelson@avenue.place) to let us know your Homebase URL. We’ll authorize it on our side. Once Nelson has replied, please continue with the steps below. 3. Click ‘Edit Homebase’ in the top right corner. If you can’t see this option, you may not have the required permissions. Please contact your organization and request they add you as an admin. 4. Scroll down until you see the ‘Discord Notifications Channel’ option. 5. Choose the most relevant channel or create a new one on your Discord Server. Pick a descriptive name, such as ‘Avenue Outcomes’. 6. Click ‘Update’. 7. Notify your team members they need to connect Discord as an individual to get notifications. 8. The integration should now be ready! You can now either start new Hubs or edit existing ones and add the relevant Coordinators who you’d like to be responsible for managing Outcome submissions from your teams. You'll need to notify the Hub coordinators and Homebase admins that they need to connect their Avenue profile with their Discord account in order to receive relevant notifications on Discord. However, all your members can now start Rooms directly from your Discord server. See [Available Commands](#available-commands). #### Connect as an individual 1. [Create an Avenue profile](https://avenue.place/login) and choose a username if you haven’t already. 2. Visit your profile by clicking anywhere you can see your avatar (such as the square image in the top left corner.) 3. Once on your profile, click ‘Edit Profile’ in the top-right corner. 4. When the pop-up opens, scroll down until you see ‘Discord Connection’. 5. Click the button and follow the instructions on Discord to connect your account. Make sure you’re in a public channel - if you want to use a private channel, you need to add our bot to it manually. 2. When in Discord, type a forward slash (`/`) 3. Choose from three options: \ `/avenue new room` - this creates a new Room\ `/avenue my rooms` - this shows all Rooms you’re in which were generated via Discord\ `/avenue rooms` - this shows all public Rooms in the entire Discord server 4. If you choose `/avenue new room`, this will generate a private link that only you can see. You can either visit the Room, to change the title and description before you invite people, or you can share the Room you’ve just created, which will change the link from private to public, meaning anyone in that channel can now view and join the Room.
